You've all seen these 'best life hacks' and looked longingly wishing you had all of the obscure materials to do them. Here we've kept it as simple as possible outlining 10 of the most doable and useful hacks, that really will make a difference to your every day life.

1. Make more space in your microwave
Lets face it, your microwave becomes one of the most used appliances in your house when you move out for the first time. They are pretty compact little things, and waiting to heat up the second component of your dinner whilst the first goes cold is a bit of a drain.

Place a second bowl on top of a mug so you can fit two in at a time:

2. Save washing up by using paper plates
They scream out kids party, but honestly they are a saviour when the sink is full of everyone else's dirty dishes. Especially useful if you are entertaining guests and showing off your top barbecuing skills. Pretty cheap to pick up from the local supermarket as well.

3. Use a glass to boost your phone speaker
You've got guests over and your paper plates are going down a treat. Your sound system however is not. Put your phone into a glass to boost the speaker:

4. Get more ink out of your printer
When your computer says your printer is empty, there is often still a lot of life left in the cartridges. Most usually have a little re-set button which you can press with an unwound paper-clip. This will re-set the gauge on the computer and will give you a lot more printing for your pounds.

5. Keep your computer keyboard clean
One of the most common reasons for failing keyboards is crumbs an dirt sitting in between the keys. Use a post-it note to get the dirt out from in between the keys and to prolong your keyboards life. After all, you couldn't possibly stop eating snacks in the middle of the night when you're writing essays.

6. Clean up broken glass without the drama
It's inevitable that glasses will break at some point during your stay at university. Hoovers aren't cheap, so to safely pick up as much broken glass as possible, use a slice of bread to press into all of the shards, to throw them away.

7. Stop losing everything
Make these neat little storage devices out of an old tennis ball (or a new one - they are pretty cheap). Stick some googly eyes on them if you want to make them look extra cool, and cut a little slit in the front to hold all of your important belongings.

8. Make a tip top breakfast in minutes
That old cliché that breakfast is the most important meal of the day again. Well, it really is. Have a drama free breakfast by literally whisking a few eggs in a mug and pop it in the microwave for a few minutes. Hey presto, a tasty, healthy mug of scrambled eggs. Make it less healthy by putting it on toast smothered in butter...

9. Keep your bananas fresh
If you're pretending to be healthy, bananas are probably the cheapest (and most fulfilling) fruit. They ripen up pretty quickly though and then they most certainly aren't very fulfilling when you're scraping fur off your tongue for the next hour. Wrap some cling film around the top of them to prolong their life-span.

10. Save space with your storage
Chances are you lucked in with the box room when you moved in. Save space in your drawers by folding your clothes and putting them in the opposite way. It only works if you actually put your clothes away though.
